IWSG December 7 – Holiday time!

Hello Readers!

We are into the last month of 2022 and another year is past us. How did you do? I fared just about fine. I experimented with my writing, slowed down actually, tried to send out work, learnt to deal with criticism, and turned into a better reader. I didn’t have much publishing news to share this year, but I treasure the few places that featured my writing. And I hope I will do better next year.

This leads me to the December 7 question at the IWSG which is a wonderful place for writers. If you wish to join please visit here.

I would also like to draw your attention to this relatable piece on critique partners by CleeMckenzie. Says Lee, In general, I believe critique groups have great value. They give writers different points of view on their solitary endeavors and open possibilities for growth and improvement.

And now for the question, It’s holiday time! Are the holidays a time to catch up or fall behind on writer goals?

Our holiday time is in October/November with most festivals falling in these months. Writing is difficult because festivals are all about meeting family and friends and cooking and shopping. Sometimes travel as well. But I try to meet my reading goals . I listen to audio books and try reading up the blogs of friends. Writing, I’m afraid, rarely happens for me. We have a little Christmas time off in December as well. With the weather here in Delhi at its worse and foggy days for company, time is mostly spent indoors. So yes, December holidays are a time to catch up with the writing goals.

How does your writing go during holidays? Let me know in the comments below.

The awesome co-hosts for the December 7 posting of the IWSG are Joylene Nowell Butler, Chemist Ken, Natalie Aguirre, Nancy Gideon, and Cathrina Constantine!

Do visit them and show some love. See you in the new year!

  1. Hi, Sonia. From where I stand I think you deserve congrats for going the distance. Wonderful. I’m happy you stuck as close to your resolved path. Don’t beat yourself, you are closer than you think.
Me? I do what I can too. I’m doing more than I’ve ever done in past years but mostly on my website.
And it’s ok for me still. Complacent, I am not. But still trying to hone the craft and build more confidence.
    Thanks for sharing. Xoxo

  2. Hi , from the freezing UK
Late to the party as usual, distracted by remembering, almost too late, to rescue frozen everything from the garden, and,
a rare chance to walk in my favourite weather – a white frost.
Just check4ed the current UK strike calendar, which now seems to include everybody, except writers and shop workers.
Writing time ? In the holiday season ?
Do emails and cards count ? All festivals too, in a complicated family ?
This year, at last, time to be with – and hug – people missed for so long. Healthcare on strike ? We’ll look after each other, Would have loved to drive a train…..

  3. Thank you Sonia for your updates and sharing the holiday and festival season in Delhi, as the weather. Writing seems always to be put aside. You privilege the here and now during that season. Family and loved ones are, you are right, the priority. What we live for. Giving what we can and receiving with gratitude. Happy December reading and writing.

  4. This time my writing goals weren’t affected by the holidays like it usually is. Even with NaNoWriMo, there’s less writing output. But this year was different. Maybe it was the different way I approached NaNoWriMo this year.

  5. My writing went really well this past year. (I left my job to write full-time in 2021.) I recently completed the first draft of a new novel. It is now in the resting period before I revisit for revisions.

  6. Hi Sonia. I am looking forward to more of your work being published next year.
Did I share with you how delighted I was when there was an article about you in the Times of India early this year or maybe last year! (I am sorry I can’t recall the exact time) I told everyone I knew that I know this person via blogging! Basking in borrowed glory!

Wishing you a very happy new year in advance. May you meet as many of your writing goals as possible. I always look forward to your writing. ❤️
