Dear Readers,
As promised, I am back much before my usual time, and the reason is the Global Poetry Writing Month. I’ve worked out some prompts for myself but unfortunately, today’s poem is based on neither of those. It came to me as I sat thinking about my recent holiday where I met a couple from the UK during one of my walks. Sometimes my backyard carries more verve than I can see.
I may not be able to post every day but it’s wonderful to ‘poem’ during April and I’m thrilled to be doing this after many years. See you around.

Hypermetropia
A day after the rain in early March
spring spills in my clamorous city—
a pop of blue in swirling green.
By the magnolia, I meet two travellers
from distant shores,
sniffing its glorious pinks running down
the valley. Enjoying your beautiful country,
they say.
Long after our goodbyes I sit beside
the bursting tree, tuning in to its beauty, learning
to find blossoms in the cracks of my backyard.

Truly love this, Sonia. Sometimes we don’t see the beauty in front of us, until someone else points it out to us!

Sometimes it takes an outsider to remind us to appreciate what we have. Beautifully said, Sonia. Great start to GloPoWriMo. 👍🏼

our backyards are filled with beautiful lessons like blossoms that find a way through the cracks to the light. When I see that kind of strength and endurance, he gives me hope. Thanks for continuing to delight us with your poetry. And I love that you turned the word poem into a verb in your introduction.

How beautifully you’ve captured the moment in these few words! And it’s true we miss the value of what’s beside us until someone points it out. Happy to see you ‘poem’ again!
