Dear Readers and Fellow Writers,
As I write for the last WEP entry of the year, it is with a heavy heart that I share the news of ‘Write Edit Publish’ closing down after thirteen long years. I wrote my first WEP post (a flash fiction) in December 2020, and it was very special as I won that month. Since then, every single piece of flash/poem that I penned for the WEP has been special. The prompts were amazing. I really enjoyed the year of ekphrastic prompts. Comments from fellow writers and reading others helped me hone my craft. In 2023, I got an opportunity to be a part of the host group and it was a new learning curve in my journey. I will miss WEP. For more details on the anthology, please visit the website.

The last prompt of the year is ‘Over to You’. I’ve chosen the movie ‘Everything Will Be Alright’ (2022) and I’m sharing a poem about this theme that I wrote during the pandemic. I chose to share this poem because it reflects the farewell mood of WEP, and all I can say is that Everything Will Be Alright (and that’s the tagline for the day).
Our springs aren’t over, darling
bloom is on its way,
We’ll wake up to the mellow sun
to warm our hands some day
I’ll open the windows, dear
a tiny beam will dance on the sill,
The lilting song of rain
will carry us up the hill
The sails of our ships will unfurl yet again
and take us beyond strange lands,
Etching our precious memories
on their golden sands
Peals of laughter will echo
all over the frozen house,
Adding a dash of brightness
to our ordinary sounds
We’ll push up through the murky waters
like pond lotuses floating about,
And open our petals one by one
to a morning of delight
For now, darling, let us enjoy
the gentle falling of ruthless snow,
Allow a twinge of colder joys
over brown landscapes grow
For I promise they will soon turn
into stories from long ago, because…
Our springs aren’t over, darling
bloom is on its way,
We’ll wake up to the mellow sun
to warm our hands someday

It’s such a lovely poem, dear Sonia. You got three beautiful years in the company of that lovely community. I know you know how lucky you are. You flexed your ✍🏽 muscles there and now saying goodbye is always hard. But don’t fret—WordPress Reader has an amazing community. It’s not your WEP but it’s a welcoming community. Please don’t overlook it. And prompts? Prompts galore here too. Let me know if you need me to show you the way.
I’ll dig up a post where a generous blogger listed prompt stops. Amazing.
I bless you. Keep going. Keep soaring.

Hello Selma. Thank you so so much for writing in and for your love and blessings. Your posts and consistency are motivating. I’d love to follow posts with prompts but I’m looking for something that is not very demanding. A monthly thing would be great, if you know of any. Thank you again!

Sonia, thank you for your heartfelt kind words re WEP. You have been a light in some of the dreary days when confusion reigned. I’m sorry we have to close down, but I know you understand. As Renee says, maybe WEP will rise again, better than before.
Thanks for being such a loyal WEP member then team member for so many years. I hope you might turn up for out regular meet-ups on the WEP site every first of the month (starting Feb 1) to share what you’re up to.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Hi Sonia – I’m just so sorry WEP is finishing … another year would have been great – but I quite understand … the mainstayers (organisers) have been so well organised for us.
Lovely poem – Covid has made us ‘maudlin’ – which can be sad, but glad as new horizons open for many of us … I hope for me too! I only blog and couldn’t write write (or do FB) … I just enjoy the camaraderie … cheers and with thoughts for a happy end of year and then into 2024 – all the best – Hilary

Hi,
It has been a joy writing beside you in the WEP. Thank you for your openness and willingness to change. I truly believe that the WEP will be missed by us all.
However, the door is closing. Either one mourns over what was or move on to what could be. I hope that we all move higher into what we never thought could be. We will never know what we can achieve if we don‘t walk the path of change.
Everything must change, nothing remains the same…. One of my favorite songs from Nina Simone. I believe that. Change is one of the factors that keeps us growing.
Have a Merry Christmas and a safe crossover into 2024, and take care.

Dear dear Sonia,
Your sadness seeps into your words. Goodbyes and farewells are never easy but I always feel, and end always leads to a new beginning. I wish you and WEP moderators and members many expansive horizons ahead.
God speed!
The poem is beyond lovely – maudlin, yet so very hopeful.
Wishing you a cosy winter. ❤

I’m getting the sense that authors are starting to pull away from blogging. I wish you and the other WEPers all the best moving forward!
