Do I Know Poetry

Hello Readers, Thank you for stopping by and for your comments. I am unable to respond to comments presently due to some engagements, but I will be visiting you all soon. As you know, I’ve been doing a first draft poetry series for a while. Here is my next offering, little miss silly inspired by the rejection from lit mags.

do I know poetry?
truth be told, I’ve tried
to rhyme
but failed miserably
my verses, you see,
are slightly mulish
‘Tame the Shrew’ like the Bard
is what they tell me
get in some octaves and sestets
or irony at least
watch how we braid
the hairs of our maids
you must do that too,
go now, Tame your Shrew!
or
chisel her at best
to fall in line with the rest
that have been read
in issues 101, 102, 103…
no, we care not how wild she be
let her ‘blow us away’
not by her alacrity
BUT
by her adherence to
issue 101, 102, 103…
so, I tell them honestly
this shrew won’t listen to me
long gone, says she, are days of patriarchy
and so, put simply
if it doesn’t go with 101, 102, 103
I’d rather know shrews
and not poetry!

  1. I myself being a naive soul don’t know either about technicalities but you shared the emotions perfectly through this piece where you crave the perfection that the world warrants . Lovely write ✍️

  2. I read this poem with a big smile on my face. Rejections hurt. When I was squirming with rage over my rejection and wrote a post about my raw, tender feelings, I recall reading comments telling me how ‘rejections’ are all part of the process. I knew then and I know now that to be true. When I look back at the rejected piece, I can see its rejections was the stepping stone to my next writing chapter. But, at that time and even now (sometimes) it all seems unfair, too.

I’d like to know the shrew too but I’d like it more if she were displayed in a Lit Mag;)

    You nailed it with :
“no, we care not how wild she be
    let her ‘blow us away’
    not by her alacrity
    BUT
    by her adherence to
    issue 101, 102, 103…”
